How to transition to new food

Here's a three-step process for transitioning your pet to new food, backed by veterinary science.

Day 1-3

Begin by introducing the new food in small amounts, mixed with the current food. Start with 25% new food and 75% old food for the first 2-3 days. A gradual approach allows pets’ digestive systems to slowly adapt to the new ingredients, reducing the risk of gastrointestinal upset.

Day 4-5

Over the next 4-5 days, gradually increase the proportion of new food while decreasing the old food. Follow this pattern:

Days 3-4: 50% new food, 50% old food

Days 5-6: 75% new food, 25% old food

This step by step increase helps your pet’s gut microbiome adjust to the new diet, minimizing the likelihood of diarrhea or vomiting.

Day 7

By day 7, transition to 100% new food. Monitor your pet closely during this final stage for any signs of digestive issues. If problems occur, slow down the transition process. For pets with sensitive stomachs, extending the transition period to 10-14 days may be beneficial.

And always remember...

During this transition, try to keep feeding times consistent and keep an eye on your furry friend's behavior, appetite, and bathroom habits. If you notice anything unusual or concerning, don’t hesitate to reach out to your veterinarian for some personalized advice.
